Our History
A. Smith Gill - The creation of Gill Children's Services was made possible
through a trust left by A. Smith Gill in 1979 for "needy children in Tarrant County." Our agency was
established to respond to last resort needs of children and prevent them
from falling through the cracks of our community's assistance network. The
children we serve have critical unmet needs for specific services and have
exhausted all other resources. In the last 30 years, more than 38,000
children referred by social workers, school nurses, hospitals and other
agencies have turned to Gill Children's Services for assistance.
The need for Gill's services is even greater today than when
the agency began 30 years ago. Poverty, especially for children, has
increased while eligibility for public assistance programs has tightened.
As our community grows and needs increase each year, the Board of
Director's of Gill Children's Services is determined that the critical
needs of children in Tarrant County still must be met.
