Dream

Dream is six years old and lives in Fort Worth. She is diagnosed with Rhett’s Syndrome and faces daily challenges that affect her ability to walk, talk, and use her hands.

Dream had been selected by local organization, A Wish with Wings, to have a special wish granted. Her wish was to have a home that could accommodate her physical ability and her in-home therapies. She had been having therapies in a space no larger than a closet, so A Wish With Wings arranged contractors, therapists, and more to modify her family home to meet her unique needs. They installed a ceiling track system, sensory-friendly furniture, and a speech-generating device.

Dream’s wish had reached the maximum budget that A Wish With Wings could grant, but she still needed a special bed.

Dream has lost all ability to stand and walk but can still roll. This poses a serious risk of falling, especially while sleeping. During past hospital visits, Dream had even fallen out of her bed with rails. When she falls, she cannot help herself back up.  Her pediatrician recommended a “cubby bed” – with its tensioned walls, securable doors, and camera monitor, the bed would allow Dream’s mom to keep her safe while she slept. Insurance denied her claim, and the out-of-pocket cost was too much for Dream’s family to bear. Gill Children’s Services was contacted to help fund the cost of the bed.

Thanks to our wonderful community partnerships and your support, Dream has a safe bed and special space that is as unique as she is.
